GRANTS IN ACTION: Take It To The Town Hall – Outdoor Movie Nights

With the support of a 2025 Spring Community Grant from Community Foundation Grey Bruce, Dundalk Team Town Hall hosted Take It To The Town Hall: Outdoor Movie Nights, a free community event designed to bring residents together for an evening of entertainment, connection, and community spirit. Held in downtown Dundalk, the event created an accessible space where people of all ages could gather, socialize, and enjoy a shared experience.

The Outdoor Movie Night took place on August 9, 2025, beside the Olde Town Hall in Dundalk. With support from the Township, a section of Artemesia Street was closed to create a safe and welcoming space for attendees. Families and friends gathered with lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the evening's activities and movie screening.

Before the movie began, local musicians provided live entertainment, while children and families participated in activities such as sidewalk chalk and outdoor games. These opportunities encouraged social interaction and helped create a lively atmosphere that welcomed residents of all ages. The event was made possible through collaboration among local organizations, businesses, and volunteers. JCI provided a free chicken dinner earlier in the evening, while popcorn and beverages were available during the movie. At the end of the night, local restaurant La Tinos surprised attendees with complimentary pizza, further contributing to the event's welcoming atmosphere.

More than 100 people attended the Outdoor Movie Night, participating in activities, sharing a meal, and enjoying a screening of Shrek. By removing financial barriers and offering free admission, food, and activities, the project ensured that everyone could take part regardless of their circumstances.

The success of the Outdoor Movie Night has created momentum for future community events in Dundalk. Having acquired their own equipment, Dundalk Team Town Hall plans to continue hosting outdoor movie nights during the warmer months and explore indoor movie screenings at the Olde Town Hall in the future. Through ongoing community partnerships and volunteer support, these events will continue to provide opportunities for residents to gather, connect, and enjoy shared experiences.
